Symbiotic
Rendering

2023–2024

Symbiotic Rendering treats fashion as a system that can exist across the physical body, the body of AI and digital space.

As AI gains a physical body through wearable technology and a virtual body through real-time generation and AR, clothing no longer needs to remain a fixed material object. It can sense the wearer and the surrounding environment, produce movement and visual change, and exist simultaneously across physical and augmented space.

Fashion has always imagined the future, yet technologies that transform society often enter other fields before changing how we dress. Symbiotic Rendering explores this still largely open territory by proposing a prototype for future fashion:

Clothing becomes a continuously sensing, generating and changing system between the human body, AI and the physical world.

Rather than predicting a single future, the project uses a working interactive system to explore what we might wear — and what clothing itself might become — once AI begins to inhabit physical reality.

AI’S PHYSICAL BODY

A wearable fashion structure gives AI a physical presence in the real world. Cameras and distance sensors capture the surrounding environment, while mechanical tentacles respond to the wearer’s EMG signals, turning the garment into an active sensing body.

REAL-TIME AR FASHION

Body tracking and real-time generation translate physical movement into a continuously changing digital fashion layer, allowing clothing to extend beyond the material garment.

PHYSICAL + DIGITAL SYSTEM

The physical wearable and real-time screen operate together, connecting bodily movement with a responsive digital body and allowing physical fashion and digital fashion to exist as one system.
